Latest Punch scheme rewards best practice
Press Release

The leading lights in Punch Taverns’ network of business relationship managers (BRMs) have been recognised as part of an inaugural internal awards scheme.

Bob Barnett and Chris Moulson have claimed the winner and runner-up prizes respectively as part of the 2005 BRM of the Year awards.

Having fended off competition from around 150 other BRMs, Bob and Chris underwent an on-the-job evaluation from Punch chief executive Giles Thorley before being heralded as the company’s best performers.

Bob, who lives in Stafford, said: “I love the independence and travel involved in this job and I feel this award is recognition for my work over the last ten years as a BRM.”

The awards were first announced at Punch’s conference last autumn and Punch’s regional operations directors were tasked with identifying the best performer in each of their areas.

Short-listed candidates were then evaluated by different members of Punch’s executive team, including customer services director Francis Patton and commercial director Jonathan Paveley, as well as award sponsors Logica before being whittled down to the final two.

While the competition has been running Punch has been monitoring retailer satisfaction levels. In a year on year increase, 81 per cent of respondents have been satisfied with the level of support they receive.

Giles said: “Every one of our BRMs has been recruited for their ability to help retailers develop and grow but Bob and Chris have shone more than most.

“This is the first year we’ve run the awards and I hope it will act as further motivation for our staff to continue excelling at what they do and increasing levels of satisfaction amongst our licensees.”

As part of the continuing development of its employees, Punch has recently created the role of senior BRM, a position which will involve the nurturing of talent by acting as a mentor to trainees. Both Bob and Chris have been promoted to the position in recognition of their abilities and dedication to the job.

Punch Taverns is one of the UK’s largest operators of leased and tenanted pub companies with more than 8,000 outlets.
