Punch Pub Company licensees are being offered sponsorship to help them gain Cask Marque accreditation. Punch will pay for the application and first year’s accreditation costs as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the cask ale market. Head of marketing Geoff Brown said: “More than 25 per cent of our 4,300 pubs stock one or more cask ale and we make available to them a choice of up to 52 beers through our Finest Cask scheme. “The quality of the products at the point of dispense is of paramount importance and we welcome any initiative which aims to raise standards for the consumer. “Cask Marque certainly delivers this in terms of real ale and we would urge our retailers to take up the offer of support and get involved.” The Cask Marque is a nationally recognised and respected standard awarded to licensees for excellence in the service of cask ale. Cask Marque director Paul Nunny said: “Cask ale is the one product unique to the British pub and recognition by the consumer of quality beer does generate extra sales. “We are delighted with Punch’s decision to support its licensees’ entry into the Cask Marque scheme and will publicise the achievements of successful applicants through the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, our 28 regional guides and our website.” Punch Pub Company is one of the UK’s most progressive and innovative operators of leased and tenanted pubs.
